What is Mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary process in which the parties to a dispute make decisions together based on their understanding of their own views, each other’s views, and the various realities they each face.  As an experienced and highly trained mediator, Susan Ruffer Levin will guide you through the process and help you communicate and explore your options in a non-adversarial manner.  Ms. Ruffer Levin will maintain neutrality to help both parties identify issues, clarify the various perceptions and explore ways to resolve conflicts.  Because both parties engage in mediation voluntarily, it avoids the “winner take all” approach that can be so damaging to ongoing relationships.  The goal with mediation is to reach consensus, preserve your important relationships, and avoid the time, stress, and high costs of litigation.

Mediation is an important tool in divorce, custody, and other family issues, because it helps both parties recognize and acknowledge they are co-parents who need to work together effectively.  Susan Ruffer Levin will provide both parties with the guidance to resolve their differences and achieve a more satisfying and cost effective result for their children and their families.

Mediation is also an excellent option for partnership, business, and employee/employer dispute resolution, because it is often much quicker and less expensive than litigation.

Of course, in those cases where mediation is not the best approach, parties area always free to return to the traditional adversarial system. If you want more information about the mediation process, please visit our FAQ page, or contact us for a free consultation.
